Hautsprecher: a vibrotactile skin speaker

Hautsprecher (“skin speaker”) is a four-motor vibrotactile stimulus device, built with Sven Kielmann. An Arduino drives four independently addressable motors inside a printed enclosure. A Python API and CLI drive the whole thing from experiment scripts, there is a Tkinter GUI for quick demos, and the CAD files for the enclosure come with it.

It came out of the haptic search work. Testing whether attentional findings from vision hold for touch needs precisely timed, spatially distinct tactile cues, and nothing off the shelf offered that much control while staying simple enough for everyday lab use.

Software and firmware are licensed GPL-3.0-only, documentation and CAD files CC-BY-NC-4.0. If you need the same thing, take it rather than build it again.
